Myths & Legends

Mastering the genre of narrative, or history, painting was once considered the culmination of an academic painter’s training.  Paintings that portrayed a moment in myth, allegory, religion or history convey much about the beliefs that bound people together at a given time.  Many of those narratives are still relevant.   “Myths & Legends” reinterprets the stories that have figured prominently throughout the history of art.  Rather than human figures, however, mannequins—the artist’s articulated doll-like helpmates—are the agents of action.  These “faceless” beings suggest the universality of  the stories, while commenting on the illusion inherent in all figure painting.
